The Smile, New York (USA)
In Harlem, a stainless steel facade proves how much design potential a century-old zoning law can hold. For BIG's (Bjarke Ingels Group) The Smile, INOX COLOR finished 800 individual panels as part of its inoxATELIER ICONIC Series, Orion surface, Black color. Mechanical bead blasting followed by electrochemical coloring (inoxSPECTRAL) replaces any conventional PVD coating process, producing a shifting, moon-like texture across roughly 6,000 square meters. Every panel reflects light differently, contributing to the building's individual approach to stainless steel cladding at scale. A reference project for anyone who treats facades as an architectural statement.
