Mechanical surface finishing of stainless steel
as well as aluminium, titanium, copper, brass and bronze
At a glance
Under mechanical surface finishing we group all processes with which we deliberately shape stainless steel surfaces by grinding, brushing, blasting, polishing, embossing and patterning. We call this product group inoxTEXTURE.
The transformation of the surfaces is functional via defined Ra values or decorative via the grinding and blasting pattern. INOX COLOR delivers a constant grinding pattern with an individual Ra value, visual inspection of every sheet, material up to 10 mm thick and dimensions up to 6 x 2 m. Added to this are functional finishes such as anti-slip (R11 to R13 with certificate), scratch resistance, anti-fingerprint and an easy2clean surface. 40 years Made in Germany, ISO 9001 certified.
More than just grinding
Mechanical processing transforms the structure and numerous properties of a stainless steel surface. We create glossy or glare-free, rough or mirror-smooth surfaces, change the haptics of a product and set functional properties, from defined roughness through anti-slip to ease of cleaning. Often the mechanical processing is the starting point that can be combined with chemical and electrochemical processes such as colouring, pickling, passivation or electropolishing into a tailor-made surface. It is exactly this combination expertise from a single source that sets us apart.
A ground or blasted surface is only ever as good as its uniformity. That is why we work with clearly defined processes: incoming goods inspection, measurement of the initial roughness, coordinated pre-grinding and fine grinding to the specified mean roughness, and a final visual and roughness inspection of every sheet, not just spot checks.
Bead blasting

Uniformly matt, flat, cloud-free and non-directional surface with glass, corundum, sand or ceramic beads. Cleans and compacts the surface and reduces the risk of stress corrosion cracking. Suitable for sheets, profiles, bars and tubes; on request, logos or motifs are blasted in selectively.
For all mechanical finishing processes, maximum dimensions apply: 6 x 2 m.
The best way to determine the polish pattern, Ra value, and surface type is to use an actual sample. Send us your specifications, and we’ll advise you and produce a sample.
inoxTEXTURE by INOX COLOR versus standard suppliers
The difference between high-quality and average goods shows in what stays the same on every sheet.
Especially for visible surfaces, repeat orders and defined requirements, this decides between "fits" and "rejected":
| Merkmal | inoxTEXTURE | Standard supplier |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding pattern | constant | fluctuating |
| Ra value | individually defined | fluctuating standard |
| Inspection | every sheet visually checked | random sample |
| Delivery date | flexible | depends on capacity |
| Material thickness | up to 10 mm | up to 4 mm |
| Dimensions | up to 6 x 2 m | standard widths 1.25 / 1.5 m |
Materials and supply forms
We process stainless steel in a wide range of supply forms: sheets, tubes and long products, 3D-formed sheets, expanded metal, wire mesh, patterned and embossed as well as pattern-rolled surfaces, and small parts. Depending on the process, we additionally finish aluminium, brass, copper, bronze and titanium sheets. Small parts such as screws, springs or clips are processed as bulk material, large components up to XL format.
Industries
Our mechanically finished surfaces are found in mechanical and plant engineering, in tank and apparatus construction, in food, beverage and pharmaceutical technology, in medical technology, in architecture, interior and shop fitting, in vehicle construction and on fastening and component parts, everywhere that look, haptics and function of a stainless steel surface have to come together.
Why INOX COLOR
We bundle all production steps in our own works. This gives us unmatched combination options, short process chains and plannable delivery dates. Flexible lot sizes, from a single piece to a series, and individual samples are a matter of course. As surface experts we advise from material selection through to the individually coordinated processes and parameters. We have produced Made in Germany for 40 years and are certified to ISO 9001.
Tip grinding is a speciality. Mechanical polishing, bead blasting, grinding, brushing, diagonal and cross grinding as well as hairline grinding or vibration grinding, precisely to customer specification, round off the service.
In Walldürn, INOX COLOR blasts stainless steel fully, all-round and selectively; bright, ground and coloured surfaces; flat goods and parts with free-form surfaces. We also grind stainless steel sheet, finely tuned to the respective requirements.
